Race One- #3 Lost in Rome: This horse is admittedly light on speed figures; however, there are a couple reasons to try to get this horse in the verticals as a big bomb. First- this horse was stuck wide against a gold rail last time out at Saratoga. Secondly, this low-profile barn has sent off a couple live runners at the meet so he’s on our radar. Look for this horse to pick up pieces from the back of the pack.
The Play: 1 unit on a Trifecta Key Box 3 with 4,5,7
Race Four- #4 Strapped: If Athur’s Ride returns to form off the layoff he will surely be too much for this field to handle; however, we can’t completely trust him given the layoff. Strapped was severely pace compromised in his last start and we like him stretching back out an extra furlong. He has proven to relish the extra distance and we have knocks on the rest of the field.
The Play: 1 unit to Win and 1 unit on a 1/4 Exacta
Race Ten, The G2 Jim Dandy- We like this race a lot from a vertical perspective, specifically the trifecta. We view Sovereignty and Baeza as the clear cut exacta with Sovereignty obviously more likely to take top honors although maybe not to the extent that the market will price. What makes this play interesting for us is we are very anti-Sandman leaving us with only two other horses in this compact field to round of the trifecta. Mo Plex should make the lead, but we think the other riders won’t make the tactical error of letting him get too far of a jump on them in such a small field making this somewhat of a rider’s race. He should be swallowed up by the top two around the quarter-pole and that will leave us with Hill Road, a solid closer with improving form for red-hot connections, to come running late to round of the trifecta.
The Play: 5 units on a 5/1/4 Trifecta and 2 units on a 1/5/4 Trifecta
