Race Three #3 Third Coast - Interesting longshot. Our debut figure is significantly higher than the commercial figuremakers’ and you can bank on routine improvement with this conditioner handling lightly raced horses.

Race Six #5 Perrylu- Another interesting longshot. Trainer points for this meet and I actually ran into her yesterday down in the paddock and she shared that this horse has been kicking the stall doors down ready to run. Picks up live jock.

Race Ten #9 Barker- Another trainer who points for this meet. Has been repeatedly compromised by slow paces and love the cutback in distance.

Race Four #4 Call On Me - This filly looks pretty good in this spot. Rusty Arnold is not only a trainer that targets this meet, but is also a trainer that you can count on to show dramatic improvement from start to start in his lightly-raced runners. Moreover, this filly closed into a slow pace on debut in what looks to be a quality field. Look for Luis Saez to have her more forwardly placed this time out.

Race Nine #4 Ragtime- There looks to be plenty of pace signed on in here and I would imagine Bill Mott will employ some team tactics with his other runner which should set this race up well for a closer. Look for this horse to be mowing ‘em all down late. Considering #2 Sterling Silver as the exacta partner to go with our top selection.

Can you feel it? Another Keeneland spring meet is upon us and our horse racing coverage is finally back by popular demand after a very successful 2025 campaign. Those results were attained by being rigorous in our handicapping approach, extremely selection oriented and structuring our wagers properly. You have to operate this way in order to grind out a profit in such a high-takeout game. We have a lot of new subscribers, some who are not familiar with horse racing, and we will try to make our handicapping digestible for new horseplayers and seasoned veterans alike. We’re glad that you’re here with us as we venture into the Keeneland spring meet together- a journey that will be filled with world class racing, some nice winners and a couple inevitable bad beats along the way. Race Two #11 N Z Holly- This three year old filly is an interesting price shot to start the card. After debuting on a synthetic surface, she found herself stuck on a dead rail at Oaklawn and still managed to win and then was caught wide next time out trying to close into an inside speed biased track- we believe that effort looks a lot better than it appears on paper. Furthermore, the form of that race has been flattered by several of the horses that have come back to run well and validate that figure. The presence of Flavien Prat in the irons will certainly drive down the price, but he should be able to work this filly over into a nice stalking trip from the outside draw. As shown below, this Trainer/Jockey combo has had tremendous success together in similar spots at Keeneland over the past five years.

Race Seven #7 A Fine Chardonnay- This filly should be primed for this spot. In typical Ian Wilkes fashion, she has been conservatively conditioned and we expect to see continued improvement throughout her young racing career. She’s tried to close into two consecutive glacial paces and today should be primed for her best effort to date and she should sit a perfect outside stalking trip.

Race Nine #2 Percy’s Bar - This precocious filly certainly has the best namesake among the field. The chalk will obviously be tough to beat in here, but there’s enough reason to project improvement for her to be very competitive with the #3. First, you can project routine improvement for age from two to three often about 10 points on the Beyer scale. Furthermore, physically this filly has really grown into herself as evident in her morning preparations. She’s been working up an absolute storm at Keeneland for the past five weeks. Benny Colebrook is a local Lexington guy who points for this meet and has a boutique operation. I’m sure the first thing on his mind in the morning is getting this filly into the starting gate at Churchill for the Kentucky Oaks. Finally, she’s had two really rough trips in a row- getting DQ’d in the Alcibiades last fall where she was certainly best and then getting bounced around down on the rail at the Breeders Cup. Look for her to get better trip today from the ideal inside draw on this track configuration and see y’all afterwards at Percy’s Bar!

Race Three #6 Chunk of Gold - This fantastic $2,500 purchase (/lottery ticket) has banked over 3/4 of a milly in his illustrious 3YO campaign and this is a nice spot to add to his ROI as he attempts to check off his N2X condition and the distance and trip should be perfect.

*Note: if he takes care of his business look to upgrade the #3 horse in R8.

Race Six #6 A Fine Chardonnay - This horse ran a very professional race on debut and we have that effort as the top ability figure in this field, but what makes this horse especially intriguing is Ian Wilkes is a conditioner you can almost always count on to race his runners into fitness. They’re hardly ever cranked on debut which is evident in not only his trainer stats but also the price this filly was on the tote board. Henceforth you can project improvement, oftentimes A LOT of improvement, from first to second start; and if we already have this horse’s last effort as the top ability figure in the field then with routine improvement this horse becomes a very likely winner- especially when juxtaposed with the other trainers in here who have their horses ready to produce a top performance on debut. Finally, the outside draw with Tyler Gaffalione is perfect for a stalk and pounce type trip.

Race Seven #3 Princess Attitude - It’s extremely doubtful that the CAWs will let this horse go off anywhere near the listed 8-1 morning line, but if they do there will be a Brinks truck backed up at the clubhouse entrance at Keeneland. This horse fits well on figures and form and should more than appreciate the class drop. Moreover, when Vicky Oliver gives the call to Johnny V’s agent for a mount at Keeneland you can bet your bottom dollar that she’s got a Live runner and the trainer stats more than flesh this out- they’re good for a spectacular 27% Win Rate and a $2 ROI of Over $9!

Race Four #7 Baytown Bruiser - This is a pretty wide open race on paper with several directions for the public to go including the #11 horse who we think will be a big underlay. We believe that the #7 Baytown Bruiser is the most likely winner and will also provide nice value in this spot. We have this 4YO gelding pairing up 80 ability figures in his last two starts and think he will appreciate the slight cutback in distance here. We trust Luis Saez to give him an aggressive ride and he should be able to display the right finishing ability at this distance. He goes out for totally under the radar connections and that should ensure a decent price at the windows.

Race Five #12 Confront - This is an interesting turf sprint and we think the #12 Confront will be tough to handle in here if he can work out a trip from the outside post under Irad Ortiz. The form of his last race at Kentucky Downs has been solidified as several of the runners have come back to run well next time out including the winner. We think this 5.5 furlong trip is ideal and like that he has shown the ability to rate before. The two interesting price shots we identified to go with this horse in the exacta are the #9 Brie’s in Town- who exits the same common race and the #10 Our Starry Night- who goes out for Phil Bauer and Luis Saez who should have him forwardly placed, his effort two back at Saratoga makes him dangerous here.

Race Six #7 Cozee Rags - We typically don’t like Union Rags as a turf influence, but this horse’s form is interesting enough to overlook that pedigree angle at what figures to be a generous price. When dissecting this filly’s past performances it becomes evident that she relishes added ground and its somewhat surprising that the trainer hasn’t pointed her to longer distances more frequently. Her performance last fall in the G3 Dowager is particularly encouraging and her first race back on the turf since that effort should provide a nice prep for this spot where she was running at too short of a distance and hopelessly stuck behind a dawdling pace. Let’s try to blow up the tote board with this filly today!

Race Nine #5 Cowboy Roy - This horse should provide good value in the nightcap; he ran a very nice race on debut and we think that if he’s able to improve off that effort he’ll be tough in this spot at a generous price for low profile connections. The draw is perfect and when Ethan West and Axel Concepcion have teamed up this year they’re winning at a remarkable 31% rate good for a $2 ROI of nearly $4!

Race Four #2 Truly Legit - This horse should relish the cutback in distance to 7 furlongs. Look for Gaffalione to employ aggressive tactics breaking from the rail draw and for the extra conditioning coming out of route races to make the difference in getting this horse to finish in this elongated sprint distance. Underrated trainer Michael Tomlinson has had nice success at Keeneland over the past 5 years sporting a healthy $2 ROI of $4.41! The other interesting horse to use underneath in the vertical exotics is the #9 Right On Right On who should be picking up pieces late.

Race Nine #4 Utah Beach - This horse has shown an affinity for these turf marathon races at Keeneland and we look for him to sit another nice trip here being able to save ground around all three turns and then produce his finish at the top of the lane. Race Three #6 Motown Dynamic - This horse is an extremely likely winner to us- is in excellent form and has a clear cut pace advantage over this group. We project fair value to be closer to 2/5 to 3/5. We found the #3 horse Scoot Along to be a good underneath key as she is exiting the same last two races as our top pick and her even running style as well as her sharing the common trainer as our top selection should result in the right sort of dink-up trip.

Race Eight #1 Cima de Areco - This horse is somewhat of a wildcard as she makes her North American debut for world-class turf conditioner Graham Motion. After doing some digging into his stats, we uncovered that he has had tremendous success with this move- with foreign shippers spotted in allowance races he totes a 25% Win Rate with 59% being in the money resulting in a $2 ROI of $2.94. Simply put, he does well with horses like this and we view the rest of the field as a below average group when rated against our ability figure pars for the level.

Well we had a great opening weekend of Keeneland resulting in a profit of +17.5 units! We’re headed into Week 2 with a flush bankroll and in a nice handicapping rhythm. We’re going to remain diligent with our profits and continue to be selection oriented and demand value. We’ll size up when the time is right. Lexington received a torrential downpour on Tuesday which scratches this card off the turf, but we’ve still identified one spot to get tied into- Good Luck y’all!

Race Five #5 Trident Hit- This hard knocking 8YO looks to provide pretty good value in this spot. On paper this race shapes up to have a lot of speed which should be able to set it up for the horse we view to be the best closer in this field. Before the last start this horse had been in rock solid form putting together a string of efforts that would be very competitive at this level. We’re drawing a line through the last race as this horse just didn’t class up to that salty field at the Spa and we don’t think he wanted the added distance either. Ron Moquett is a hard boot horseman who we have a lot of respect for and we think he’s spotting this horse appropriately this late in his career. Finally, we found a nice trainer angle that fits this situation- over the last 5 years when dropping in class for a claiming tag in dirt routes Moquett sports a 22% Win Rate with 49% In The Money and good for a $2 ROI of $3.54! Look for Keeneland staple Tyler Gaffalione to tuck in and save ground around the clubhouse turn before running down the tiring speed horses late to get a big piece of this affair.

Race Eight #2 Bobrovsky- This is an interesting edition of the Indian Summer featuring a highly-touted Wesley Ward runner in Schwarzenegger who should be an underlay in the win pool. We like the #2 Bobrovsky in this spot who goes out for Dale Romans. This horse was very impressive last time out at Saratoga chasing a scorching hot pace and still having enough finishing ability in reserve to put away that rival and hold off the closers. We have that effort as the top ability figure in the field and think the versatility shown being able to successfully rate may prove the difference in here today.

Race Ten #7 Awesome Connection- We think this is a wide open race and didn’t particularly like the chalk who’s taken advantage of making the lead in a couple slow paced races- he’s all dressed up. We started looking at some of the longer prices and found the #7 Awesome Connection to be pretty interesting. He’s paired up a couple 70 ability figures on our numbers which is a figure pattern that we look to precede a forward move, which could be a pretty big step forward for a 2YO routing for the second time in his young career. Furthermore, when we started digging into the trainer stats we uncovered a gem- Christopher Davis over the last 2 years at Keeneland is winning at an astounding 24% rate with 48% in the money which is good for a $2 ROI of $5.53! He’s vastly outperforming his baseline at Keeneland and its apparent he’s gearing up his horses to run their best races at this boutique meet and the market hasn’t caught onto it! So even if this horse can’t get it done for us today we’ll be keeping a close eye on his runners going forward.

We got our Keeneland meet off to a great start with our recommended opening day selections resulting in a profit of +18.5 units for our Subscribers! Although the Saturday card features the highest quality racing of the entire meet- including 5 Grades Stakes and 3 Grade Ones, we had a difficult time finding horses that represented any great value on the card. We want to be diligent with our opening day profits and continue to be selection oriented and demand value. We’ll fire when the time is right. With that being said, we still managed to find a couple interesting spots to get tied into, but we’ll be dialing back the unit sizes to properly express the strength of our handicapping opinions. Race Two #7 Gallivant- We don’t typically recommend a lot of first time starters, but found this 2YO colt to be pretty interesting. Ben Colebrook trained the dam for this ownership group years ago and she won her debut at Keeneland and went on to win the G3 Beaumont at Keeneland before retiring as a broodmare for LNJ Foxwoods. The dam has already thrown a nice winner on debut who went on to achieve blacktype in the G2 Remsen and we really like the ownership group giving the training duties to Colebrook here (who they haven’t used since he trained the dam). He’s a Lexington local with a small barn and he’ll be extremely focused on preparing this horse to perform well on debut. He simply doesn’t get a lot of horses like this and when he has- he’s had a lot of success with them, specifically at Keeneland. Finally, he got his meet off to a rock solid start yesterday so we like the short term form of the barn as well. Watch for some tote signal, but we think this horse will be cranked and ready to roll today!

Race Six #8 Khaadem- We think there’s enough speed signed on in the G2 Woodford today to set the table for this classy old European closer. When digging through his European form it becomes clear that he doesn’t relish soft ground. He’s shipped across the pond twice to run at Kentucky Downs and both times has been hopelessly compromised by slow paces. We think its a very astute more for connections to run him back in this spot. As we’ve previously alluded to, Kentucky Downs provides a great foundation for Keeneland turf racing and we believe his ability figures are the best in this field. We make him the favorite in what figures to be a murky tote board. He’ll be running on firm ground so he just needs to get enough pace to close into which we think he finally might get today.

Race Five #1 Morlock- We think this 3YO colt will offer nice value in this spot. Career maidens like this often get discounted by the market, but this is a situation where he might finally get across the finish line first. This horse has been running in route races throughout his career, including his first start off of an extended layoff last time out and we believe the turnback to 7 furlongs might just be what he needs. Moreover, this horse likes to be forwardly-placed and we don’t envision an abundance of speed in here. Drawing the 1 hole with Luis Saez aboard only means one thing here- SEND. Finally, conditioner Eddie Kenneally has had a lot of success on the Keeneland main track over the past 5 years with Luis Saez in the irons they’ve achieved an impressive 25% Win Rate resulting in a +30% ROI! Look for him to be on or near the lead early and for him to be able to display nice finishing ability in his second start off the layoff as he cuts back in distance from route races.

Race Six #6 In The Stars & #10 Eunomia- The #6 In The Stars is a standout in this field to us. Her two turf starts are significantly better than all of her tries on dirt. It is clear this is what she wants to do. Moreover, her last race at Kentucky Downs was sensational with that ability figure towering over the rest of this field- we even upgraded that visually dominant effort as the 2nd and 3rd place finishers out of that affair both came back to win and improve their figure in their following starts. Furthermore, Kentucky Downs has proven to be a great venue to prep at going into turf racing at Keeneland as the idiosyncratic nature of the course with its undulations results in extra conditioning and stamina for horses’ following starts. We also have a lot of trust in astute horseman Rusty Arnold slowly getting horses to move forward like this- a Lexington native who specifically targets this meet. There’s ample early speed signed on and we’ll look for Luis Saez to work out a trip from midpack and be able to produce her big finish in the lane. The interesting other horse we’ve identified is the #10 Eunomia. She should get a patient ride from legendary jockey Frankie Dettori and be able to similarly take advantage of the projected fast pace in here. Although her form is a little dirtied up, we had a huge trip on her race in Keeneland in the spring where she was hopelessly taken out of the race as a horse bolted on the final turn, but to our surprise she fought back on and rallied gamely through the lane inside of a rival. She showed a lot of heart in that effort and we think she might savor this Keeneland turf course and is in the hands of another local conditioner who has a tendency to outperform at this meet.

Race Seven #5 Nakatomi & #6 Here Mi Song- Although this race features a short field, it is still an interesting handicapping puzzle. The #3 and #4 horses both prefer to be on the lead. The former is a certified Oaklawn Park lover and Steve Asmussen has had terrible statistics at Keeneland going back for years now. The latter is perhaps more trustworthy, but looks like he’s going to have pressure on the front end considering Wesley Ward has seemingly entered the #2 horse in here to inject even more pace to set up for his big closer #5 Nakatomi, our top selection. He should get the right setup and has an affinity for this Keeneland main track. Our interesting horse to go with him is the #6 Here Mi Song who goes out for low profile connections, but should sit a great outside stalking trip as he lets the speed develop to his inside. He has similarly shown an affinity for this track and has been rounding back into form in his last two starts.

Race Eight #2 Mackinac- This is an interesting edition of the G2 Jessamine, a Breeders Cup qualifier, and features the return of the highly touted #12 Time to Dream who was extremely impressive at Saratoga over the summer. We’re worried about the post position for her, but think she’ll still be able to produce her big late run. Although there’s a lot of speed signed on in here, we will try to use a little bit of the #3 Carolyncaroline who was compromised by a fast pace last time out at Kentucky Downs but still managed to hang on well- resulting in an ability figure upgrade. Leparoux has soft, French hands and might be able to sit a nice pocket trip if a couple of the other speeds are intent on gunning at all costs. The horse that we’ve identified as the best value is #2 Mackinac. She also comes in from Kentucky Downs and should be extra fit. Although some handicappers might view the 6.5 furlong configuration there as more of a sprint, we think it actually plays more like a route so we’re less worried about the stretch out in distance for her. Finally, she’s also in the hands of patient horseman Rusty Arnold and as mentioned earlier he is a magician at getting his horses to show improvement from start to start, especially early in their career progression. We think this filly will sit a cozy, ground saving trip towards midpack and be able to finish up nicely in the lane.

Race Seven #7 Gloves Off - This horse closed nicely into a moderately-paced race at Ellis on debut. The form of that debut victory has subsequently been flattered as three horses have come out of that race to win next time out. Moreover, Eoin Harty is a patient horseman who you can expect improvement from with racing experience. We think this 2YO colt has lot of upside and the price will be more than commensurate for his probability of winning.

The Play: 2 units to Win, 5 units to Place and 1 unit on 7/2 Double.

Race Eight #2 A Bourbon for Tony - We played this horse last time out where he got ANOTHER bad trip and believe he was best on the day. It’s a frustrating part of handicapping and perhaps he creates some of his own bad trips to some degree; however, we like the rider change to Irad in this spot. Although we’ll be knocked on price we trust him to work out a clean trip from the inside draw. Let’s get him home & hosed today!

The Play: 2 units to Win (if Dead in Double) and 5 units to Place (regardless of Double).

Race Six #8 Captcha- This horse got caught chasing a fast pace last time out and goes out for a barn that has been scorching hot and we look to take advantage of that in this spot. Look for this gelding to be towards to front end and to be Live at a big price against an uninspiring field of Maiden Claimers.

The Play: 1 unit to Win and 1 unit to Place.

Race Three #7 Crescendo’s Rein- This horse ran an impressive debut race setting a very hot pace and battling gamely to the wire. Furthermore, conditioner Charlie Baker does not typically have his horses cranked first time out sporting a win rate of only 5% with first time starters over the past five years. The lack of money this gelding took on debut further indicates that this horse could take a step forward in his second start with routine improvement.

The Play: 2 units to Win and 1 unit on 6/7 Exacta.

Race Ten #1 Patch Adams- This Allen Jerkens field features a lot of horses with question marks and we believe Patch Adams is a standout among the group. His Woody Stephens effort was even better than it looks considering he was chasing wide against a rail bias. Luis Saez just needs to work out a trip from the rail, but if he does we believe Patch will handle his business and provides good value near his morning-line odds.

The Play: 5 units to Win.

Race Twelve #6 Crazy Mason- The Forego features what should be a scorching hot pace and we believe this will set the table for dead closer Crazy Mason to get up for a big piece of this affair. We’re going to key off him in the Trifecta and we’ve identified the 1,4,8 as the horses to go with him in the vertical exotics. The 4 is the most likely winner that we think is solid but won’t provide much value, the 1 is an interesting horse cutting back for Cox who should be able to finish coming out of route races and the 8 is an interesting value horse who ran well against a gold rail last time out and could take a step forward here.

The Play: 1 unit on Trifecta Key Box 6 with 1,4,8.

Race Eight #4 Cooke Creek- This gelding is returning off the layoff for red-hot connections. We believe getting out of salty Graded Stakes races and returning to allowance company should really help this horse. As we’ve previously noted, this ownership group LOVES to win races at Saratoga and we believe that’s why he’s spotted here today. Mike Maker sports a gaudy 30% Win Rate for Flying P Stables at Saratoga over the past five years. This horse has been training well for his return and we had him against a speed-biased racetrack in his last race so will totally draw a line through that performance. He should be able to fire a mid-90’s ability figure which should be good enough to beat this group at a square price. Look for Ricardo to put this horse near the lead and take care of his business. The #1 Wynstock is an interesting price shot who has been compromised by two slow paces and a gold rail in his last three starts and we’ll try to get him underneath our top pick for part of our play.

The Play: 2 units to Win and 1 unit on 4/1 Exacta.

Race Ten #4 Alexis Zorba- This 5YO gelding has been an all-time classic chandelier in the lane throughout his career; however, we believe this is an incredibly interesting spot to bet him today. With the rails on the Mellon turf course taken down to the 0’ setting yesterday BOTH turf sprints were won by the inside speed horse. We believe there is a strong possibility this bias will persist today and this gelding figures to be the controlling inside speed. Moreover we like the jockey switch to Rosario who is the strongest finisher in the game, his fresh set of hands might be able to do the trick in getting this horse to finish in the lane. Finally, we might actually get a square price today even on the class drop with recent backers of this horse getting tired of his antics and not going to the windows. We believe today is finally the day for this gelding to get his picture taken at the Spa!

The Play: 5 units to Win.

Race Four #5 Mo Kreesa- This 3YO gelding should have a clear cut pace advantage in this spot. He’s been involved in back-to-back races featuring hot paces and should take advantage of the lack of other speed signed on here today. Moreover, Mark Henning isn’t known as being a ‘claiming trainer’, but he actually has had a lot of success with his claims- sporting a 21% Win Rate and $2.95 ROI. Look for Johnny V to be able to put ‘em to sleep on the front-end and we’ll try to get this gelding home at a generous price!

The Play: 5 units to Win, 1 unit on 5/2,7 Exacta and 1 unit on 5/7 Exacta.

Race Eight- #2 Khali Magic should take advantage of being lone speed in this spot and Irad Ortiz should be intent on gunning her from the rail draw. We think the #3 Lemon Muffin is the interesting filly to go with her in the exacta. She was in good form earlier this year and started tailing off shortly before the untimely passing of a truly great human being and ambassador of our game, The Coach. RIP Legend.. She’s since switched barns and is now being conditioned by Rudy Brisset and has been steadily working at Ellis. We think she can return to her previous form in this spot and make first run at the #2 horse and get a jump on the closers in what should be a moderately-paced race.

The Play: 1 unit on 2,3 Exacta Box and 1 unit on 2/3 Exacta.

Race Four #5 Lost in Rome- At first glance this horse looks hopelessly too slow on paper and significantly pace-compromised in this spot; however, we have a variant perception of this race. Let’s start with the race design- we think the presence of the #4 horse in here could inject more pace than initially appears. This horse broke slow last time out in a much tougher spot and didn’t get to show off his speedy early foot; we think he’ll get back to his previously blazing early pace figures on the class drop here. Ricardo Santana is likely to similarly gun the #3 horse because he has had success using aggressive tactics all meet long. Although these horses may not outright ding-dong duel on the front end we believe the pace will at least be honest enough to give our dirtied-up closer a shot to dink up for a big piece of this affair. As for his recent form- we had him caught wide against a gold rail in his race two back and then he was totally pace compromised in his last start. We’ll bet our horse on the nose at what should be a very nice price even in a small field and then use him underneath the #4 who should prove to be the best of speed. Good Luck!
